Nothing Separating

In our Thanks for Nothing series, we concluded today with “Nothing Separating.” We’ve learned some amazing things from God’s Word in the past few weeks, and today was no exception. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

I love it when Jeff asked the question: “are you saved?” and made it so simple. There are five steps in Romans 10 on what it takes to be a Christian.  Let’t take it in reverse order: 1) God sends someone with the good news of Jesus Christ to a person who needs to hear it.  2) That person speaks that good news.  3) The person hearing it understands it.  4) They believe it.  5) The person believing calls on the name of the Lord.

Are you saved?

  1. God sent Jeff to us hearing today.
  2. Jeff told us the good news.
  3. You understand the good news.
  4. You believe the good news.
  5. You call on the name of the Lord.

And that’s salvation.
Nothing is required of us.  On the cross, Jesus said that it was finished.  He met the requirements.  He paid it all.  Nothing condemns us anymore either.  You might notice my sin, but God sees me as innocent.  And God also wastes absolutely nothing no matter if they are good or bad – he makes it all good to those who love him and who are called according to his purpose.

But we hear that, and it is hard to comprehend it.  Some of us understand God’s love like a picking petals off of a daisy saying, “he loves me…he loves me not…he loves me.” Some people think God loves them when they’ve done something great (came to church regularly, tithed, did something nice for a co-worker, etc.). But then we believe that after a week like we went through and sinned rampantly, there is no way he can still love us. But that’s not God’s love. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. We have a hard time believing God’s lvoe.  We did not save ourselves. For those who are struggling with the reality of their salvation, you need to be reminded that God saved us and we did not save ourselves, so how can we keep ourselves? It’s God’s job. And his love is so great, not only can God save us, but he can keep us.  Our salvation is as secure as the hands that hold it.

During this communion service, we worshipped to these songs:

  • Fairest Lord Jesus – Watermark Passion - Hymns Ancient & Modern - Fairest Lord Jesus
  • In Christ Alone – Newsboys Newsboys - Adoration: The Worship Album - In Christ Alone
  • Worthy is the Lamb – Hillsong Hillsong - Shout to the Lord 2 - Worthy Is the Lamb
  • How Deep the Father’s Love for Us – Stuart Townend Craig & Dean Phillips - Phillips Craig & Dean: The Ultimate Collection

Next week, we are starting a brand new Life Focus series, entitled Let There Be Light.  Come and remember what Christmas is really all about.  Bring some friends along with you this month.

And remember, he loves you.  Period.
