The Celebration

“Is Jesus Christ the light of your world?”

Jeff asked that question over and over this morning at North Side.  And it was the most important question that could be asked this morning.  Months ago when we prayed and planned this service, we had a lot to think about.  We know that the Sunday before Christmas and Easter Sunday are two Sundays where a lot of people return to church who haven’t been in a while.  It’s sort of a item on the holiday checklist that needs to be marked off.  We’re so excited for those people when they do come – in fact, if you haven’t been to church in a while, we won’t look down on you for returning – we’re ecstatic that you’re back!

So what is the best thing we can hear on this day.  Since its Christmas, we often focus on Jesus coming to earth in a general sense, but we rarely focus on what Jesus coming to earth means to each one of our lives.  So that’s what we did this Sunday.  Jeff had Buddy, Greg, Danita, Hannah, Denise, and Kathy to come up and share how Jesus has changed their lives.  And it was amazing to hear their stories about how busy Jesus has been in each of their lives and how patient he is with his love towards us.

I had a guy come up to me after the service and said, “this was so great.  Nothing wrong with hearing a preacher say that Jesus can change my life, but there is something powerful about hearing someone else say Jesus HAS changed my life and here is how!”

It was a powerful day, and we pray that many of those in attendance did give their lives to Jesus today!

A couple of reminders:

  1. Christmas Eve Service – Monday night, 5:30-6:30.  We will be serving communion in groups from 5-5:30, so bring your family and friends early to celebrate Christmas with us.  Help us get the word out!
  2. Next Week – We are going to have a special service next week to wrap up 2007 that you don’t want to miss.  We are going to tell you of an upcoming initiative that could possible change lives more than anything else in North Side’s history.  See you then!
