“Are You Who You Want to Be?”

Switchfoot’s CD, “Beautiful Letdown,” is still one of my favorite CDs of all time.  It’s not often that you want to listen to a CD all the way through and rethink your life in the process.  So many of Jon Foreman’s lyrics are crying out for people to live for more than what they are currently living.

The song, “This is Your Life,” simply states over and over, “this is your life, are you who you want to be?”  As of late, when I have been talking with different people who are far from God, or hear of people who are straying further from God, that is the question I want to ask them.

I often heard from speakers that people who are living in sin aren’t happy.  I disagree strongly.  The guy out there who is indulging in whatever he wants to is happy.  At least for now.  The person who only thinks of their own selfish desires versus thinking of other people is happy.  They are on top of the world.

I don’t know who is reading this particular post, but allow me to ask you: are you who you want to be?  Is your lifestyle something that you are proud of?  Are you as close to God as you think you should be?

There is a truth you need to realize today: right now, you are as close to God as you choose to be.
