The Heart of Stewardship

Every financial decision you make is either a credit to your spiritual life or a debit from your spiritual life.  Money is one of those areas that cause many headaches in our lives, but God has many commands concerning your finances that actually are meant to free you.  The heart of stewardship begins with you realizing that everything you have belongs to God.

This Sunday, we started a two-week series called “Credit or Debit?” at North Side.  I doubt there are too many people reading this that finances are not a little stressful in your life.  For many people, money, or the lack thereof, is the most stressful thing in their lives.  The first thing to do is realize that everything does belong to God.  First step – are you tithing?  Do you give your resources to advance the Kingdom of God in the local church?   You can here the message here.

I enjoy giving at our church.  I love it, because I know every I give I am helping to do some of the following:

  • Support overseas missionaries
  • Translate Bible translations
  • Provide for orphans
  • Support widows
  • Train future ministers
  • Feed the hungry
  • Send college graduates as Journeymen to the mission field
  • Send kids to Shake-n-Shine
  • Support campus ministers on college campuses
  • Help recovering alcoholics
  • Provide counseling for families in need
  • And that’s just the first few I could think of!  Give – you will never truly understand the power of your gift!

We worshiped with these songs on Sunday:

  • All We Need – Charlie Hall
  • Enough – Chris Tomlin
  • Came to My Rescue – Hillsong United
  • Take My Life – Chris Tomlin

By the way, the sermon intro today was “For the Love of Money” by the O’Jays.  The lyrics to this song is amazing:

ships ahoy o'jaysMoney money money money, MONEY

Some people got to have it
Hey, Hey, Hey – some people really need it
Hey, listen to me, y’all do thangs, do thangs, do thangs – bad thangs with it
Well, you wanna do thangs, do thangs, do thangs – good thangs with it – yeah
Un Huh, talkin’ bout cash money, money
Talkin’ bout cash money – dollar bills y’all – come on, now

For the love of money
People will steal from their mother
For the love of money
People will rob their own brother
For the love of money
People can’t even walk the streets
Because they’ll never know who in the world they’re gonna beat
For that mean, oh mean, mean green

For the love of money
People will lie, rob, they will cheat
For the love of money
People don’t care who they hurt or beat
For the love of money
A woman will sell her precious body
For a small piece of paper it carries a lot of weight
Oh, that mean, mean, mean, mean, mean green
Almighty Dollar!

I know that money is the root of all evil
Do funny things to some people
Give me a nickel, brother can you spare a dime
Money can drive some people out of their minds.

See you next week for another great Sunday at North Side!
