Yesterday, I was so thrilled to be in attendance at the 2008 State of the University Speech at Lander University, Dr. Ball presiding. He spoke of where Lander is going, all the accomplishments of the last year, and some recognition of some special people.
One such special person that was recognized was Scott Smith. Scott and his wife, Judy, have served Lander’s campus for over 20 years as the campus ministers. Scott runs the BCM, and yesterday Lander awarded him the Medallion of Honor (I think that is what it is called – if not, that sounds cool, right?).
It was so special to see an academic community rise to a standing ovation to celebrate a man who lives for something that will outlive him. I appreciate all that Scott Smith has done for Lander University and countless college students over the years. May more people rise up like him and Judy who live for Christ daily and constantly seek to reach out to those who are in need of the love of Christ.
