Chapter 5: The Purity (Freshman 15 Snippet)

Here’s a snippet from Chapter 5: The Purity:

The goal is not to see how close you can get to sin.  The goal is to be holy because God is holy (1 Pet. 1:16).  We don’t want to get near sin;  we should yearn to flee from it.  The problem is that many people have never decided concerning the area of purity what is actually classified as sin.  You don’t know how far is too far.  If you don’t determine how far is too far, you will cross the line every time.  All logic is thrown out the window when we are experiencing temptation.  Temptation leads to lust; lust leads to sin; and sin leads to death (James 1:14-15).  You must determine what is off-limits and what is free game when it comes to your sexual activity in college, and if you don’t have an authority to help determine the line, you will never know when to stop.

That’s why I propose that the road to holiness in the area of sexual purity can be found in “The Duct-Tape Standard of Holiness.”  Imagine a line of duct tape (since every college student knows that duct tape fixes everything) in your college dorm room scaling one side all the way to the other side (a whopping three inches).  On the far right side, that part of the tape represents totally pure sexuality.  This side is so pure that nuns would call you asking you how you stay so innocent.  On the far left side, that part represents a rebellion against God’s instructions for sex so great that Jerry Springer himself wouldn’t even have you on his show because you make him feel uncomfortable.

Let’s imagine that you are standing on the pure side.  How far is too far going down the line?  You must be aware that the nature of our sexual desire is a lot like the law of diminishing returns.  Once you held hands with someone for the first time, you were enamored with butterflies swarming in your stomach.  Your first kiss sent your knees knocking.  The problem is we always leave wanting something more.  We are designed that way.

Leading up to the time around when I get to release Freshman 15, I wanted to provide you a snippet every day for 15 days at 15:00 in the afternoon.
