A Less-Than-Ideal Home

Today, we concluded the worship portion of the “Legacy” series.  Wow, God has done so much among us during this month of May.  I have heard so much positive words about what is going on in homes as a result of this series – praise God!

I think my favorite portion of each week was going into the homes and filming the “Home Invasion” clips.  I loved hearing today how the Ridgeways took their sons to Brazil on a family mission trip.  Their family could never be the same after that!

Today, we worshiped to:

  • Awesome is the Lord – Chris Tomlin
  • Your Home – Travis Agnew
  • Made Me Glad – Miriam Webster (Hillsong)

I got a little overwhelmed when we sang “Your Home” today.  When I wrote that song, I envisioned couples worshiping together with it.  I envisioned a family drawing the line in the sand and making God the Lord of their home.  Watching it today and thinking about what God has been doing in the homes at North Side, it was amazing.  “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”As far as the final message for the series, Jeff did a fantastic job encouraging those in a not-so-ideal home.  If an ideal home is one in which the father leads the way for the children’s spiritual development, our culture is in trouble due to the current state of families. With the increase of single-parent homes (or functioning as a single-parent home), what is the answer for children who start their spiritual journey at a disadvantage?

The pastor Timothy grew up in a home with a father who did not follow God, but his mother and grandmother had genuine contagious faith. As Paul wrote to him in 2 Tim. 1:3-7, he provided encouragement for parents who are not in the ideal situation. Even if one’s home isn’t the way that it should be does not mean that God can’t make it that way.

You can listen to the message from northsidebc.org – you need to, it is wonderful.

As we wrap up this series, what did God teach you and your home?  Comment and share the love.
