Where is Eli Right Now?

A couple of nights ago while I was reading Obadiah a book at bedtime, I pointed to the corner of Africa where Eli lives.  Since that time, every time we open that book up and turn to that page, Obie points to the corner and says, “E-ya, brubba, E-ya.”

Yes, that is where he is for now, but hopefully, he is coming home very soon.  This sweet encounter is some of the precious moments we are treasuring right now waiting for Eli to come home.  I have had many people ask as of late, where Eli is in the process and how much longer we have.  Here goes:

  • It takes 6-8 weeks for paperwork to process in Ethiopia before he is legally our son.  This Thursday is week 6.
  • Once we receive the news, in about 1 week, I will receive word of the US Embassy appointment in Ethiopia.
  • That could be 2-4 weeks out for travel.
  • I go to Ethiopia, do a bunch of stuff for 7-10 days, take lil’ man into my custody, and come home.

We are not far away at all.  There is a bunch of special events during the next few months that we are waiting to see if I will be here or not.  If I was a betting man, I would say I am traveling on April 16th.  I don’t know why, but I just have a feeling.  The feeling is probably indigestion.  Hopefully, it will be sooner than that.

In the meantime, we are in serious nesting mode and trying to guess what size clothing he will need, and look through our items before making Babies-r-us runs.

Continue to pray for Eli.  He has made some weight and height adjustments in the last couple of months which is a great sign.  He is in an orphanage right now that seems to be taking good care of him.  Pray that these remaining weeks will be beneficial for him, and that all the logistics move smoothly so we can get him home as soon as possible.  So while Eli is in Africa right now, he soon will be home.

  1. So exciting! Can’t wait to read that E-ya brubba is home with his family! I am adopted not only by heavenly father but by my earthly parents as well Reading of your adventure gives me insight on what it was like for them as they waited for me. The same emotional journey I would imagine but quite a different journey geographically.
As my kids know and your’s will too…some babies grow in your tummy and some babies grow in yor heart.
