Pray for Church Members (Part 2)

As our worship team strives to be available by leading with presence, this month we have focused on praying for different sections of your church.  This week, I want you to continue to pray for church members, but I want you to do something unusual:

I want you to pray for the ones you don’t know.  I have given our worship team on Wednesdays pages of church members that they are responsible to pray for and many of them they do not know.  It’s pretty awesome to think that every member has been prayed for in the last few weeks by our worship team.  You can join them!

You are probably wondering what you can pray for if you don’t know them.  Here’s how:

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. -Romans 8:26-27

When you don’t know specifically what to pray, you allow the Holy Spirit to pray through you.  Here’s my recommendation this week.  Get a church directory, a list, some pictures or something that shows faces or names of those in your church.  And start praying through them.  As you encounter these names that you don’t know, allow the Spirit to guide you in how to pray.  I have been amazed at times when doing this the prompting to pray for a person not to seek a divorce, to get involved, to get financial support.  The Spirit of God will pray through you.  It’s nothing weird, it’s the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Get a list and start praying.  You don’t know who God may have you to walk beside in prayer today!
