Money is a tool. Money is not moral or immoral. It is amoral. It can be used for good or bad. Money in of itself is not evil. The love of money is the root of all types of evil (1 Timothy 6:10).
In fact, God is not against you making more money. It’s actually a good thing. Read Ephesians 4:28 and find out why:
The thief must no longer steal. Instead, he must do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need.
Paul depicts a man that used to take advantage of others for financial gain. This thief, changed by the power of God in his life, was expected to stop his thievery. Instead of stealing, he was now expected to work and to work hard. Using his hands, he was expected to commit to honest work. For what purpose? To make more money!
Paul’s instructions explained why it is a good thing to make more — to give more money away. In Christ, we should make more in order to give more.
When men get raises, for what types of things do they normally use that money? All types of stuff with no eternal value!
While it is acceptable for men to spend money on a home, a hobby, or an investment, it is not acceptable to drain all of resources in things that only benefit us. Paul describes a man whose money is able to meet a need for which he comes aware. In your church, in your community, in your neighborhood, you hear about financial needs. Resources are needed for all types of situations.
If we spend all of our extra money on ourselves, we are unable to partner with God to meet those needs. God wants you to make more to give more. Are you aware of a financial need around you? What can you do to help?
