Are Your Children Christians?

We are called to examine ourselves to see if we are genuinely believers or not (2 Cor. 13:5).

As a parent, how can you thoroughly examine to see if your children are Christians?

Even a young man is known by his actions – by whether his behavior is pure and upright.  -Prov. 20:11

Parenting is challenging, but it is extremely difficult when you are trying to shape character of children who don’t have the Spirit of God in them.  Some parents may attempt to teach children the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) in order to improve behavior.  While children may show signs of patience or kindness or self-control, if they are not born again, they cannot display true signs of godly living.  It is a mere passing moment rather than a stable reality.

While your child is a specific masterpiece designed by God Himself, you have to come to grips that without a personal relationship with Jesus, your child is lost (Heb. 11:6) and dead in his or her sin (Eph. 2:1).

One of the most important things you can as a parent is to share the gospel with your children.  By explaining the gospel to them, you give them the supernatural ability to work out their salvation with fear and trembling according to the power that God provides them (Phil. 2:12-13).

Don’t rely on someone else to do the job God has called you to do!  Teach your children the Word.  Teach them what it means to be saved.  Share your testimony with them.  Talk about it along the way.  Make special times to share.

More than training them how to hit a ball, raise their score on the SAT, or how to apply makeup, are you teaching your children what it means to follow Jesus?
