Lost and Found

But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted?  And how can they hear if nobody tells them?  -Romans 10:14 (MSG)

To truly realize how lost the world is, we must first realize how lost we were before Jesus found us.  We were once all lost, stumbling around, immersed in fear, trying to find our own way.  In the story of the Prodigal Son, the father said in Lk. 15:24, “this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.”  When the man’s son was lost in sin, he was dead.

As Christians, we believe that all of us once had that moment of overwhelming fear when we realized that we were really lost, we were hopeless, we were going too wrong too fast, the darkness of the world had closed in on us.  We were as good as dead, and then, out of the darkness, we saw a light.

Paul stated in Romans 10 that a person must believe with their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord to be saved (v.9-13).  But how can they call on Him unless they’ve heard about Him?

That’s where we come in.

Our great and wonderful Savior Jesus said in Mt. 5:14, “You are the light of the world.”  As Christians, we are the light.  We are the light of Jesus, guiding the lost home in the arms of a Father who desires only to hold them closer and shelter them from the cold and lonely darkness of the world.   Jesus said, “A city set on a hill can not be hidden.”

The only fear greater than that of being lost, is having someone you care for lost.  Our Father in heaven cares for nothing more than the return of His lost children.  We as Christians need to take the fear of Christ into our lives; His fear is that one of His children is stumbling through the darkness of the world, straining his eyes to see the way, in search of a light to guide him Home.  We must be that light, for we once knew the fear of being lost, and we also know the comfort of being found.

The world is hopelessly lost without Christ, unless we are willing to take our light into a dark and treacherous world in hopes of bringing home God’s lost children.
