Tips Concerning How to Catch Up on Bible Reading

The last couple of weeks have been super busy.  As I am leading a group of folks through our 100 Day Bible Reading Plan, I have to confess something: I got behind.

A few days behind.

During ministry, early morning camp schedules, family stuff going on, I got more and more behind in my Bible reading plan.  I also got behind in my memory verses review.  My Scripture Typer app was blowing up with verses that need to be reviewed.

Excuses, excuses, excuses.

I am supposed to be leading others to get into the Word and I got behind.

Maybe like me, you have found yourself behind in a discipleship plan.

I thought I could give you some tips concerning how to catch up on Bible reading (or really any other discipline in your life).

Well, maybe just one tip.

You ready for it?

Here’s how to catch up on Bible reading:

[custom_headline type=”left, center, right” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h3″ accent=”true”] Catch up. [/custom_headline]

That’s the tip.

I’m not being sarcastic.  Simply catch up.  Don’t let discouragement rob you of the joy of getting in the Word.  It does not help me to mope concerning the fact that I have gotten behind.  That doesn’t impress God and it does not help me in my biblical understanding.  If I have gotten behind, I simply catch up.

Don’t forsake reading because you didn’t read yesterday.  Don’t worry about personal streaks.  Worry about holiness.  Set yourself apart and realize that God is more concerned with today than yesterday.

Get up earlier.  Stay up later.  Sign out of Facebook.  DVR your favorite program.  Get into the Word.

Remember this:

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

You work out your salvation with the power that God works in you!

Do work understanding God is working through you.  You are not alone.  He is working in you, but you better be showing some sweat in this process.

I have a goal to read through portions of Scripture by a certain date.  When I got behind, I had 3 options (and so do you):

  1. Mope around and give up.
  2. Just reset the days and start where I am adjusting the calendar.
  3. Catch up.  Read double what you should each day and you will catch up soon.

I chose option 3.  I caught up this morning.  I am fine with you choosing option 2.  Do not choose option 1.

So, how do you catch up on Bible reading?  Catch up.

If I want it bad enough, I will figure out how to do it.
