In the area of purity, I have often hear of a couple who say that they messed up physically. Things got out of hand and they went further sexually than they say they intended.
Their standard was not holiness, and they went too far, and a lot of those encounters are based upon a boyfriend or girlfriend saying, “If you love me, you will…” Normally, that statement follows having sex or performing some other sexual act.
It’s interesting that the beginning of that phrase is similar to a statement of Jesus. That’s why I give you a response if anyone ever states, “If you love me, you’ll have sex with me.”
You may reply, “Jesus said, ‘If you love me, you will obey what I command’” (John 14:15).
If you really love someone, you will obey Christ’s commands because he’s written the book on sex and knows how it is supposed to be used.
Anyone who gives you an ultimatum likes that deserves a John 14:15 roundhouse kick to the head.
You know what I think would help a lot of Christians out in their quest for purity? If you would stop viewing those around you as sexual objects, you could begin to view them as spiritual beings instead.
Too often churches are filled with guys and girls that are lurking through a room eyeing out potential prospects versus seeing those around them as their brothers and sisters in Christ. If you follow Christ, and keep holiness as your standard, one day you are going to be able to enjoy the gift of sex the way the Giver intended, and you will be glad you waited because the best things in life truly do come to those who wait.
Any step away from God will always be too far.
