When to Pray

In order to be committed to prayer, we must have scheduled times and spontaneous times.

Throughout Scripture, we see men and women calling upon God throughout all watches of the day and night.  Prayer should be something that carries us throughout the entire day.

Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. –Psalm 5:3
Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice. -Psalm 55:17
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! -1 Chronicles 16:11

What do you know about the timing and frequency of the prayers portrayed in these verses?  We should pray morning, noon, and night.  We should seek the Lord continually!

Oftentimes, prayer loses fervor because it becomes routine and monotonous.  I desire to pray more often and also more strategic.

Think through specific things to pray for during your day.  For the remainder of this day, how should you pray at:

  • MORNING:
  • NOON:
  • EVENING:

As you select different prayer emphases for the day, find a way to remind yourself that works for you.  Start out praying for the specific requests for whatever part of the day is closest to you now.  Make reminders for the other two emphases.
