Final Words in 1 Thessalonians

Great day of worship today as we finished up 1 Thessalonians.  Our services were designed around this passage:

1 Thess. 5:23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.

25 Brothers, pray for us.

26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.

27 I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

We focused a lot on grace today.  I guess you could say that is all we focused on.  Someone said, “Man, Trav, we sang a lot about the blood today.  There really isn’t a greater subject, is there?”  Nope!

Here’s how the services went:

  • Nothing But the Blood – Citizens
  • In Tenderness – Citizens
  • Budget Vote
  • Offertory Prayer
  • This Is Amazing Grace – North Point
  • O the Blood w/Nothing But the Blood – Gateway Worship
  • Message – 1 Thess. 5:23-28

The message was such a great conclusion to this portion of the series.  Here are some of the major points to think about today:

God has never been at unrest.

He is the God of peace!  He has never been not at peace.  He is never frantic.  He is never unsure.  What beauty to know he holds us in his hands!

Paul prayed for their sanctification and preservation based upon God’s faithfulness.

Since God is faithful, he will finish what he started.  His children will be sanctified and kept for his return.

God has never started something that he will not finish.

Oh, what hope there is here!  God has started his work in me and he will finish it (Phil. 1:6).
