VERSE OF THE WEEK

His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. [2 Pet. 1:3].

BOOK OF THE WEEK

The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges

“Be holy, for I am holy,” commands God. But holiness is something that is often missed in the Christian’s daily life. According to Navigator author Jerry Bridges, that’s because we’re not exactly sure what our part in holiness is. In The Pursuit of Holiness, he helps us see clearly just what we should rely on God to do―and what we should take responsibility for ourselves. As you deepen your relationship with God, learn more about His character, and understand the Holy Spirit’s role in holiness, your spiritual growth will mature.

  1. We’re more concerned about our own “victory” over sin than we are about the fact that our sins grieve God’s heart.
  2. We become so accustomed to our sins we sometimes lapse into a state of peaceful coexistence with them, but God never ceases to hate them.
  3. But God has not called us to be like those around us. He has called us to be like Himself. Holiness is nothing less than conformity to the character of God.

POST OF THE WEEK

TIP OF THE WEEK

Expect Great Things from Your Kids.  This week at our church’s VBS, I shared a book with blank pages and told them that this is what many Bibles look like for people groups around the world.  I had a goal of raising money for a few verses to translate, and these kids went over the top and raised a significant amount of the Gospel of Mark for the Hunsrik People of Brazil.

I think we sell kids too short on what they can do.  These kids got burdened big time by the reality of Bible poverty and did something about it.  Don’t assume they can’t do anything, expect something great out of them now!
