How to Invite Someone to Church (Without Scaring Them Off)

Christians live in a time when we are comfortable talking about trivial matters and uncomfortable discussing gospel opportunities.  If someone brings up your favorite sports team, you passionately defend their chances.  If someone brings up movie you’ve seen, you sound like a professional cinema critic.  If there is an awkward pause in a conversation, you know just how to start talking about the weather if the silence lingers for too long.

But what about Jesus?  Why are those who have been changed by the gospel so timid to bring him up in conversations?  How does fear paralyze us so when the opportunity comes to declare our allegiance?  Why does it almost seem that when we ask someone to come with us to church, we peg it as a negative thing?  Sunday is coming.  In fact, Easter Sunday is coming.  There are plenty of people around you that need to hear the good news.

It’s time to go the second mile in inviting someone to church (without scaring them off).
