Trusting Fully When You Can’t See Clearly

Someone asked me recently what one word would describe how I feel during this season. My response?

Disbelief.

I cannot believe how much has changed in the last 3 months. Trying to navigate during an international pandemic, civil unrest, Japanese murder hornets, and much more is a lot to handle.

The thing that drives me the craziest is I can’t see the end in sight. And even if it is closer than anticipated, the view is surrounded by too much fog to make out the proper directions.

With all the swarming questions around every arena of life, I honestly believe there are no right answers. The way forward has to clear path which can be maddening for someone who likes to have a plan.

And in the midst of all of this, maybe that is some of the goal.

for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me,
10 declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose,’

Isaiah 46:9-10

God’s Word to the prophet Isaiah teaches us some important things about his nature.

  1. No one is like God.
  2. No one can do what he does.
  3. He sees the end as clearly as the beginning.
  4. In the past, he knew the future.
  5. His word will endure.
  6. His purpose will come to pass.

Before this reality came to be, he saw every detail. He can even view pass all the chaos and see the “new normal.” Even further, he knows the time and the manner when he will bring about the real normal when evil is reckoned with, and he brings his children home.

So, you can’t see the future? Neither can I. But I trust that God can.

I can trust fully even when I can’t see clearly.

Why? Because no one is like God, no one can do what he can do, no one can see what he sees, no one knows what he knows, no one can say what he says, and no one can fulfill what he will fulfill.

If you feel overwhelmed with what you can’t see, why not grasp tightly to that which you can see?

If you can’t see the future clearly, trust the one who knows it fully.
