“King of Kings” – Storytellers

“King of kings and Lord of lords, You reign, every creature in heaven and earth will proclaim the greatness of our God.”

I wanted to share another story behind the song from one of the tracks off of our “Enter His Gates” album (You can get your copy of the album at the church or on iTunes).  Track #7 is “King of Kings” and my lovely bride sang the lead on this song.

The reason why the image for this post is the back of Amanda’s head with Baby Gloria draped over her shoulder is because this is how she recorded the majority of her vocal.

Much of this album was done around Gloria’s birth.  I had the studio computer at our house the weeks after she arrived because if I couldn’t sleep and everyone else was, I would go in there and either record something or begin to mix.  The dilemma was finding a time for Amanda to record.  She came up to the studio with Gloria during a nap time to record it, but Gloria had one of her unusual fussy times.  The only thing that seemed to work was to have Gloria on her shoulder.

I think all of Gloria’s grunts were removed from the track, but you never really know.

I decided to start this song with the hammered dulcimer with other instruments gradually coming into the mix.  Amanda’s vocal soars above everything so well and really takes this song where I always heard it in my head.  Her voice proclaiming the majesties of God is so, so good.

And thinking that she did that in the moment of also taking care of my child is even more special.  Lifestyle worshiper.
