Day 88 of M’Cheyne

I started the M’Cheyne Bible reading plan on January 1st of this year.  The goal is to read through the entire Bible once, the NT and Psalms twice.  At first I was unsure of the format, but I have grown to love this plan.

It is a simple format reading through 4 different of sections each day, and it is not geared around any holiday.  That’s why Day 88’s reading was so powerful.

It so “happenned” to be Good Friday.  It so “happenned” to be on the day we were starting our “Knowing Jesus” presentation.  It so “happenned” to be after a very rough dress rehearsal on Wednesday where everything you could possibly imagined that could have gone wrong did.

And I wake up that Friday morning and I pull out the day’s reading and I was overwhelmed by what I found:

  • Exodus 40:34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.  In this chapter, the veil is put up to show the seriousness of worshiping God.  But the visualization of the glory of the Lord filling the tabernacle was something we had prayed for!
  • John 19: 2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe… 30When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.  The first song our team wrote together was entitled “It Is Finished,” with the first words “twisted crown of thorns upon Your head.”  On Good Friday, of all times, as we prepared to celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, it just so happened to be that day’s reading.
  • Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established…9The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.  After all our hard work and planning, we were concerned if all of this work could be pulled off.  No more worries could come our way after this one!
  • Philippians 3:7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.  This one caused me to wake Amanda up and read her these passages.  As we prepared to help people in the journey of “Knowing Jesus” that weekend, we come upon this verse.

I do not believe in coincidences.  After all the obstacles we had faced leading up to “Knowing Jesus,” God reminded me through His Word that morning that I was not asking Him to join me in this process, but He was allowing me be a part of what He was doing.  Before we took communion Friday night, I gathered our 100+ volunteers together and said, “Everything is going to be alright tonight.  I know you might be stressed about pulling your part off tonight, but I am here to tell you that I have confirmation that God is on His throne, and everything is going to be just fine.”

I then read them the 4 passages.  It was a moment of beautiful worship.  While someone worshiped through grateful tears, others shouted and clapped.  A holy moment of awe set upon us in that chapel, and we just calmed down and remembered who was in control.

I share this for two reasons: 1) So you know how humbled we were at what God did among us during those nights of worship, and 2) So that you stand in awe of the power of the Word of God.  His Word never fails, never leads me astray, it never changes.  It is words of life.  And upon these truths, God is building His Church in which the powers of hell will never prevail

I love the Word.
