Doers of the Word

We always desire to make the Word the center of our services, but it is especially helpful when the text leading us today focuses on the Word!

19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.  -James 1:19-25

We started our services out by singing “I Saw the Light” and the song from “The Word” entitled “Amazed.”  Loved hearing the rowdy worshipers get after it from the very beginning.

We had some announcements to share this morning about all the exciting stuff going on.  I was very thankful that our lead staff from Family Camp all came together and worshiped at North Side this morning.  It was great to have them tell about the passion behind Family Camp.  If you are desiring more information, you can get it here.

After the announcement time, we sang “Trust and Obey” getting our hearts ready for the message.

We then introduced a new song from “The Word” entitled “What a Savior.”  I introduced it at a members’ meeting a month ago, but it was the first time singing it on a Sunday morning.  I was blown away at how people were singing along like they had sung it many times before.  I love this hymn that our team composed because it tells the story of Jesus with each verse focusing on significant events and the subsequent effect it has on our lives.  It was so powerful to be able to finally lead that one with our church.  It was a last minute effort at practice and it just fell together powerfully.  I think we ought to sing it a few more times!

Jeff’s message was great.  To be consumed with the Word.  What a thought.  What a desire.  What a needed word for this moment.  How, I long to long for his Word more and more!

To conclude our services, we sang “Thy Word” and “Your Word.”  It was great watching all of these truths come together.

We sang 3 songs from “The Word” today because we are wanting to teach these songs to the congregation.  I love how these songs are coming together.

I so appreciated a text from a church member in between services that read: “Travis, the worship team is really killing it right now.  I can’t wait to hear the whole Bible project you all are working on.”  Great to hear!

I was worried that people wouldn’t join in but I was pleasantly surprised at how people jumped in there and sang their hearts out.  Can’t wait to share some more in the weeks to come!
