Taming the Tongue

I love celebrating on Palm Sunday.  Actually, I love celebrating every Sunday.  Can’t help it!

James 3:1-12 guided our services today.  It is all about taming the tongue.  In putting the service together, I tried hard to fill our time with our mouths declaring God’s Word and his praise and therefore, we shouldn’t use our mouths after the service to speak evil.

It was also wonderful to get into prayer groups and pray over “The Word.”  Love these times of prayer as a church.

Today, we worshiped to:

  • You Alone Are God – North Side Worship (The Word)
  • Your Word – North Side Worship (The Word)
  • Take My Life – Chris Tomlin (Hymns)
  • What a Savior – North Side Worship (The Word)
  • Come Holy Spirit – North Side Worship (The Word)

Today, a teenager told me that worship was “beast mode” and a senior adult said it was “heavenly.” I love generational diversity in the church!

Jeff’s message on James 3:1-12 was spot on.  I love James 3:1 and I also love James 3:2-12, but somehow I never really loved them together.  The thought that teachers will be held to a stricter judgment in a passage concerning our words was a powerful warning today.

Our mouths are to be used to glorify God – not tear down those he came to redeem.

I am thankful for what God is doing among us.
