Children of Light

Great day!  Labor Day weekend saw us have two great crowds of eager worshipers and many first-time guests.

Our time together focused on 1 Thess. 5:4-11:

But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Our services went like this:

  • Welcome
  • Nothing But the Blood – Citizens
  • Christ Is Risen – Matt Maher
  • Family Dedication
  • How Can It Be? – Lauren Daigle
  • Amazing Grace
  • Message – 1 Thess. 5:4-11
  • Oh, the Deep Deep Love – Sovereign Grace

The band did a great job today.  I’ve been changing some things and pushing them a bit lately, and it really is paying off!  These guys and gals are the best!

It was a great day to celebrate Jesus.  Putting the service together, we really focused on the gospel.  If he has been faithful through salvation, he will finish what he started.  He will return and make all things new.

During the message, I really focused on this thought:

I will experience the wrath of God or Jesus has experienced it for me.  No exceptions.

Oh, what love and grace to know that I will never face the wrath of God!

Excited we have so many college students in worship today and get to share a meal with them before they leave!

Then at 6, we get to start our new Gospel Project study in Discipleship Group – can’t wait!
