What Would You Do if the World Had One Week Left

What is on your agenda this week?

  • Paperwork
  • Cleaning
  • Emails
  • Shopping
  • Binge watching
  • Social media gazing
  • Boring meetings

Maybe you have some of those, and you probably have a much longer list that will stress you if you continue to think about it.

Let me ask you a follow-up question: what would you do if the world had one week left?

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-2

A central Christian belief is that one day Jesus will return to make all wrong things right again. We don’t know when that time will be, but we are supposed to treat every day as if it could be that day. He will come unexpected like a thief would come in your home – not to steal but without permission. We don’t get to vote and block him on his preferred time to return.

So, what would you do if you only had one week left?

  • Share the gospel with that co-worker
  • Reconcile with that family member
  • Help those in need
  • Put down distractions and focus on relationships
  • Combat sin because it would seem so trivial
  • Refuse to be stressed by trivial things
  • Try to get missionaries in pivotal places immediately

Our weekly agendas would change very quickly if we knew this was our last week rather than another week.

And that is why it needs to change. If you would live differently with the promise of Jesus’ return, then you need to live differently now because we are not promised tomorrow.

Yes, you probably still need to do laundry. No, it’s not bad to declutter your home. I’m not saying you can’t enjoy some type of entertainment.

But your mindset would drastically change. The priority of what you focus on would alter. You would do certain things, but they would move to a lesser position and diminished importance. The things of eternity would rise to the top.

If I were wise, I’d live today taking advantage of the opportunities I have, because I may not have them tomorrow.

Jesus is coming. Take priority in the things He reveals as most important.

What would you do if the world had one week left? If it would change your priorities on the last week, it probably should at least change your perspective for this week.
