If you feel overwhelmed by the state of the world and your soul, there is still good news to be found. There’s hope even for people like us.
Do you believe that Jesus can save anyone? No matter how consistently vile their sins prove to be, and no matter how unthinkably corrupt their past has been, do you believe that any individual can experience salvation? You better hope so because we have all been defiant sinners against God.
Each of us needs God’s grace for forgiveness. There’s hope for “those” types of sinners because there’s hope for people like us.Â
8 On the contrary, what does it say? The message is near you, in your mouth and in your heart. This is the message of faith that we proclaim: 9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame, 12 since there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on him. 13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Romans 10:8-13
We cannot save ourselves. The only way anyone can be in a saving relationship with Jesus is through the gospel message. This good news reveals that even though we rebelled against our good Creator, He loved us enough to send His Son on a rescue mission for our redemption. Jesus lived a perfect life, died an undeserving death, secured a victorious resurrection, and instructed a cautious group of disciples to take this message to the ends of the earth. The fact that we are still discussing it means that this truth remains and is worth people laying down their lives for.
We know what Jesus has done and understand what others have given. Now, what is our responsibility? We must confess and believe this gospel message. The confession is a verbal testimony that unashamedly says, “I follow Jesus.” He is more than just a Savior; He is the Lord. It’s a radical shift from following one’s desires to obeying Christ’s commands. We do not follow Jesus in secrecy. It is an admission that rejects anonymity.
In addition to confessing, we also believe. In this passage, the Apostle Paul declares that you must “believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead” to be saved (Rom. 10:9). This deciding belief reveals that you have heard and accepted the gospel message. Your faith is in the risen Savior, willing substitute, and victorious king. As we share this gospel message, Jesus invites others to trust Him.
Who do you need to share the gospel with today?
If there was enough hope in the gospel for you, there’s enough for anyone you would talk with today.
