This week’s bad church sign states: “Just a moment with us can mean eternity, with God!”
What they are trying to communicate is: If you would just take a moment to stop in on a Sunday morning, we would communicate a message with you that could change your life. You could hear the gospel, become a Christian, and spend eternity with God in heaven.
What possibly may have been communicated: Our services are boring! If you are just in here on Sunday morning at 10 AM or Wednesday at 7 PM, you are going to feel like you have been here for hours. You don’t have to stay long, but you would have felt like you have been here long. Just a moment with us seems like forever!
Have you ever been in a church where a moment felt like eternity? Some people who aren’t in church feel that way too. They tried church once before or were made to attend when they were young, now that message truly resonates with them.
If we are telling the most incredible message in the world on a Sunday morning, shouldn’t it feel like an hour with us seems like a moment versus a moment with us feels like an eternity? I know that’s not what these guys intended to say, but it has a different message to those driving by.
