While the “Overcome” CD is officially released, I wanted to continue to share some of the stories behind the songs.
“Never Seen the Righteous Forsaken” was literally a last minute song to add to the project. Â During the mix, we decided to remove one song from the lineup which provided a musical vacuum towards the end of the project. Â Written as an entire piece of music, it was missing something in particular between “Unite Us Together” and “Worship You.”
In addition to that musical break, the only regret I had with all the other songs is that I had not used Psalm 37 in one of the songs. Â While it is a great lyrical framework, one particular verse that I wanted to use was Ps. 37:25: “I have been young and now am old, but I have never seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.”
With that gap in the album, I feverishly worked on this song, pitched it to Anthony, then the band, and recorded the whole thing one afternoon. Â Written as a call and response song, it is one of my favorites due to the sheer ease of a congregation jumping in and singing along on first listen.
Hearing so many sing it out Sunday evening was huge for us! Â Here is a snippet of it below and if you want your copy on iTunes, you can get that here.
