Good, Good Father

We are introducing the song, “Good, Good Father,” this Sunday.  The passage we are focusing on talks about the faithfulness of God.

What I love about this song is it speaks to the need of so many out there who have a difficult time understanding God as Father.  Due to what earthly fathers have done or not done, many have a difficult time accepting a Heavenly Father as good and faithful.

When I first heard the song, I loved it.  When it got to the chorus, a change happened that caught me by surprise.  The song shifts from talking about God to talking about us.  Normally in a worship song, I am hesitant about such turns.

What is unique about this change is the focus simply declares that our identity is wrapped up in the fact that we are loved by God.  If I am to say anything about who I am, it is simplified as one who is loved by our Heavenly Father.  That is who I am.  What simplicity and purity wrapped up in such a line.

Learn the song from Sunday so that you can join us in singing from the get-go.  Can’t wait!

Good Good Father – Lyrics

Written by Pat Barrett and Tony Brown

Verse 1:
I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think you’re like
but I’ve heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night
You tell me that you’re pleased and that I’m never alone

Chorus:
You’re a Good, Good Father
It’s who you are, It’s who you are, It’s who you are
and I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, It’s who I am, It’s who I am

Verse 2:
I’ve seen many searching for answers far and wide
But I know we’re all searching for answers only you provide
Because you know just what we need before we say a word

Bridge:
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us

Verse 3:
Love so undeniable I can hardly speak
Peace so Unexplainable I can hardly think
As you call me deeper still
as you call me deeper still
as you call me deeper still
into love love love
