Galatians 3:1-9 – If we believe our salvation to be of grace, we must not rely on our works after that. The Spirit that saves is the same Spirit that sanctifies.
Stop fighting a battle that Christ already won.
Observations
- If you hold Jesus’ crucifixion as a historical fact and a theological foundation, don’t substitute its power with your efforts (3:1).
- You didn’t start by the Spirit only to finish by the flesh (3:2-3).
- Anything miraculous in our lives is due to the Spirit’s involvement – not ours (3:4-5).
- Abraham’s conduct revealed unrighteousness; his faith obtained righteousness (3:6).
- The gospel of the Messiah created one multiethnic and multigenerational family of God (3:7-8).
- The only hope for unrighteous people like us is the same faith from which Abraham’s righteousness came (3:9).
Applications
- Maybe you have believed in God, but have you ever believed God?
- The same Spirit that saved you can sanctify you.
- You will never make spiritual progress if you depend upon your physical efforts.
- Believing the gospel is necessary for faith’s initiation and implementation.
