Galatians 5:2-12 – Some of a church’s greatest dangers can come from within by people who add requirements onto the gospel. Don’t be lured away from the beauty of grace by misleading persuasions.
Observations
- Jesus said, “It is finished;” so stop living like He left something for you to complete (5:2).
- If you pick one rule necessary to earn salvation, you’re signing up for all of them (5:3).
- You won’t grow closer to Jesus by living like you don’t need Him (5:4).
- God cares more about a heart full of faith than a life full of rituals (5:5-6).
- Even small compromises can have churchwide consequences (5:7-9).
- If you confuse God’s church, you’ve picked a fight with God (5:10-12).
Applications
- Ears: If your spiritual sounding board puts more pressure on you than praise on Jesus, they’re not sharing good news.
- Mouth: If you’re not using God’s Word, don’t claim to speak for Him.
- Heart: If you understand grace, your instinct will be love, not legalism.
