Intentional Influence

September 14, 2025

Esther 5:1-14 – Esther seized her God-given opportunity and used it with wisdom. When we obey His leading, we must act with diligence and discretion.

Setup

  • Esther was a Jewish orphan who became the Persian queen, where Haman conspired to kill her people (1–3).
  • Cousin Mordecai urged her to intercede, and she resolved to risk her life for their deliverance (4).

Situation

  • Approach – Esther appeared regally before the king, and the king responded eagerly (5:1–3).
  • Arrangement – Esther lavishly set a banquet and patiently staged the moment (5:4–8).
  • Aggravation – Mordecai stood firmly in defiance, and Haman raged furiously in response  (5:9–14).

Shadows

  • God’s throne room strengthened Esther before she ever entered the earthly one.
  • What seemed like Esther’s delay was actually God’s setup for something better.

Significance

  • Start with prayer — Private prayer emboldens a public stand.
  • Proceed with patience — Boldness includes knowing not just what to do but when to do it.
  • Lead with diligence — God’s sovereignty never excuses our passivity; it should motivate our obedience.
