Old Paths & New Steps

Jeremiah 6:16 – The prophet warned his people to change their attitudes and actions before God would have to discipline them. We don’t require new instructions; we need the resolve to live out the old ones.

You don’t need a new word if you’ve neglected to keep the old one.

Realize — “Stand by the roadways and look.”

  • Evaluating the world’s condition ought to make you long for something better.
  • It’s essential to notice when your own footprints are already marking the world’s paths.

Remember — “Ask about the ancient paths, which is the way to what is good.”

  • God’s Word is not waiting on our revisions to improve it.
  • God’s covenants and commands are as good as His character.

Respond — “Then take it.”

  • Too many Christians know God’s will but refuse to obey it.
  • Delaying or debating obedience only increases the danger of disobedience.

Rest — “And find rest for yourselves.”

  • It’s not surprising if you lack peace while fighting against the Prince of Peace.
  • Obedience is for God’s glory and your good.

We need to rediscover old paths and redirect new steps.
