Disarming the Enemy

October 12, 2025

Esther 9:1-19 – Instead of suffering defeat, God’s people gained ground. When God fights for you, no enemy can stand.

Setup

  • God raised Esther to the throne just as Haman schemed to destroy the Jews (1-4).
  • Through her courage and Mordecai’s wisdom, God reversed the decree and renewed His people’s hope (5-8).

Situation

  • Reversal – The day of intended destruction became the day of unexpected deliverance (9:1-5).
  • Retribution – The Jews struck back with courage and control, defeating their foes without exploiting them (9:6-12).
  • Relief – With their enemies defeated, the Jews established a joyful tradition to remember God’s deliverance (9:13-19).

Shadows

  • The bloodline of the Savior could not be stopped, because we needed His blood to be shed.
  • The greatest reversal came when the tomb, meant to silence the Savior, unmuzzled His followers with resurrection boldness.

Significance

  • Claim the Victory – Jesus has won the battle at the cross, so live as though the enemy’s already lost.
  • Engage the Battle – The victory is secure, but the struggle is real; so armor up and march forward.
  • Celebrate the Deliverance – Before facing another fight, remember who won the last one for you.
