Luke 3:1-20 – John the Baptist boldly called people to immediate repentance. We must turn to Jesus today because we are unsure how much longer His patience will be.
Where to Turn (3:1-6)
- God speaks through whomever He pleases, because the power belongs to Him (1-2).
- We have no authority to give directions unless they come from God (3-4).
- You can humble yourself now, or God will humble you later (5-6).
- Where to turn? Away from sin.
When to Turn (3:7-14)
- Religious talk without real repentance is worthless (7-8).
- God has no grandchildren; repentance must be personal (8-9).
- Repentance does not permit selfishness, greed, and intimidation to continue (10-14).
- When to turn? As urgently as possible.
How to Turn (3:15-20)
- Knowing Jesus clarifies who you are and who you are not (15-16).
- The bad news is judgment is deserved, but the good news is mercy is offered (17-18).
- Resisting truth does not remove its authority (19-20).
- How to turn? Believe the gospel.
