Luke 6:12-19 – Jesus intentionally chose His disciples and gave them authority in ministry assignments. If He has called you by name, He has also sent you with purpose.
Called by Name (6:12-16)
- As ministry grew and opposition rose, Jesus called His disciples to more (6:12a).
- Before making a major decision, Jesus devoted Himself to prayer, showing how seriously we should seek the Father (6:12b).
- Many followed as disciples; a few were chosen to be sent (6:13).
- The twelve weren’t set apart by credentials, but by His calling (6:14-16).
Sent with Purpose (6:17-19)
- There are always three kinds of people around Jesus: the sent, the students, and the spectators (6:17).
- The apostles had a front row seat, not for admiration, but for imitation (6:18).
- Jesus didn’t meet the need by doing more, but by developing others (6:19).
Where Are You in the Crowd?
- Spectators watch what Jesus will do.
- Students hear what Jesus will say.
- The sent do what Jesus did.
