Ordinary People with Extraordinary Causes

October 19, 2025

Esther 9:20-10:3 – After deliverance came celebration, and faithful servants helped preserve the story. God uses ordinary people who say yes to extraordinary causes for His glory.

Setup

  • God’s people had been exiled and on the verge of being erased, but God set another plan in motion (1:1-4:17).
  • Not only were God’s people saved, but many joined them while others came to respect them (5:1–9:19).

Situation

  • Establishment – Mordecai established Purim so God’s great reversal would never be forgotten (9:20-28).
  • Enactment – Esther and Mordecai rallied the people in remembrance and gratitude (9:29-32).
  • Exaltation – Mordecai rose to prominence, using his position to seek the people’s peace (10:1-3).

Shadows

  • Jesus is the greater Esther, risking His life to intercede for His people and secure their deliverance.
  • Jesus is the greater Mordecai, raised to the highest place, using His authority to bring lasting peace to His people.

Significance

  • Remember the Faithful – Honor those who trusted God before us and sacrificed so we could stand where we are today.
  • Align in Purpose – Join with others to accomplish more together than any of us could alone.
  • Steward the Moment – Use today’s opportunities wisely so that generations yet to come will know what God has done.
