Matthew 26:36–46 – In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus faced overwhelming anguish as He approached the cross. When anxiety attacks, we can learn from His response rather than allowing our fears to determine our next steps.
When anxiety attacks, attack the anxiety.
Gather (Matthew 26:36-38)
- The darker life gets, the closer your godliest friends should be.
- Stop telling everyone something, and start telling someone everything.
Pray (Matthew 26:39)
- Be honest with God about your struggles, and be specific in your requests.
- Prayer isn’t about bending God’s will to yours; it’s about surrendering your will to His.
Obey (Matthew 26:40-43)
- Sin may temporarily numb your anxiety, but it will never solve it.
- Don’t let your impulses overrule God’s instructions.
Advance (Matthew 26:44-46)
- Your feelings may not be settled, but your direction can be.
- Don’t let the difficulty of God’s path convince you to take a different one.
Because Jesus secured our salvation, we can trust Him with our struggles.
