I had to share a bad church sign with you that reads:
“OUR NEW MINISTER ASKED ME TO CHANGE THIS SIGN – SO I DID”
Hmmm…I wonder if the chairman of the marquee committee likes his new pastor or not? While this makes me laugh at first glance, it also reveals a tragic mindset at second glance. People are losing more and more respect for their pastors.
And you know why people are losing respect for their pastors?
I can still remember driving away from the church with my new bride. As I tried to navigate through the barrage of tissue paper and groomsmen’s underwear, so much was on my mind. I had just committed to my bride and in front of many close people that I would love her. Forever. We vowed it.
Do you remember your wedding vows? Sure you do! They were those words you repeated guided by a preacher where you almost passed out in front of the congregation. The traditional vows from The Book of Common Prayer are:
I ______, take thee, _______, to my lawful wedded Wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God’s holy ordinance.
If the average spouse were to rewrite these vows based upon marital reality, how would they change? Think about it.
Decisions become very simple when you put them through the lens of Scripture. God’s Word is more than adequate to provide direction and focus for every aspect of your life (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Read Hebrews 4:12 and look to see how powerful God’s Word is: For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword,
Today was another great day at North Side. We concluded the All-In series today with a topic “All There Relationally.” Jeff did a great job reminding us all our need for each other. I need you and you need me. I often tell Jesus that I would follow Him all by myself if I had to, but I’m so grateful
