There’s something deeply meaningful about opening Scripture with your son and putting what you’re learning into a song. That’s how “Seek and Save” began for Obadiah and me.
I’m preaching through the Gospel of Luke at our church over two and a half years, with “Seek and Save” as the series subtitle. As we walked through the text together, we wanted to write a song that followed the story Luke tells.
Before we wrote a single lyric, we mapped the whole song. We began with Luke’s opening words to Theophilus and worked through to the final lines of his Gospel. We knew what each of the three verses would cover: the certainty of the truth about Jesus, His compassion for the lost, His death on the cross, and His victorious resurrection.
We wanted the chorus to carry His mission through that chronological journey. At the end, it would change to reflect His promised return and our calling to proclaim His salvation to the nations.
Getting to write those truths with my son is something I’ll treasure. My prayer is that this song helps others remember what they have read in Luke and respond in worship to the Savior they meet there.
