It was so great to be led in worship by such a great team today. I missed leading with them again this week because we were celebrating Eli’s birthday on Wednesday (rehearsal time). We have had two birthdays on Wednesdays this month. So, I haven’t been kicked off the team…yet! I just needed some time to be dad this month.
I don’t want my children growing up believing I chose ministering to others over ministering to them.
I am always thankful that the priority that our church allows us to make concerning family. So I got to lead from the flowsheet but be led from the seat – it was great!
Great day focusing on James 5:7-11:
7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. 8 You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. 9 Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door. 10 As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.
In planning the worship services, I focused on waiting on the coming of the Lord (James 5:7). Here’s how it played out:
- Reading – Ps. 27:13-14
- Song – Everlasting God (“we wait upon the Lord”)
- Welcome – Dick Williams informed about Summer Roundtable. Led us in a time of prayer to prepare the way for the rest of the service.
- Song – How Great Thou Art (“when Christ shall come”)
- Reading – 1 Cor. 15:51-52
- Song – Cornerstone (“when he shall come with trumpet sound”)
- Prayer Over Graduates – Ben Hjalmer led us in a time of intercession over the graduates.
- Song – Our God Is With Us (“this one promise is enough…our God is with us,” 3 high school graduates led this song while pictures from all our graduates came across the screen – this was a very moving time to remember God’s faithfulness)
- Message – Patiently Waiting
- Song – Faithful and True (“come and come quickly, amen”)
- Prayer
Thoughts from the message:
- In the midst of suffering, don’t make others suffer.
- During hard times, 1) trust in the Sovereign Lord, 2) establish my own heart (all I can do is work on me), 3) remember the example of others, and 4) realize there is a reward coming.
- I have been called by God to endure suffering (1 Pet. 2:21-23).
- Never retaliate! Not my job (Deut. 32:34).
- “Their day is coming!” Be patient. Let God handle it.
