To begin the “Knowing Jesus” album and event, we needed something dramatic.
We needed something to display the numerous prophetic scriptures referring to the Messiah.
We needed something to sound dark with light bursting forth.
We needed something that sounded like 400 years of divine silence from God to Israel.
We needed something to create the space between Malachi and Matthew.
We needed something to sound like a supernatural battle going on where a baby was going to be born and the great dragon was trying to stop it.
And we needed it all in about 4 minutes.
And that’s what we tried to accomplish in tracks 1 and 2 in “Knowing Jesus.” The “Prologue” is a 2-minute piano driven piece that Woody Nivens created to display the tension of this time waiting for the Messiah. The violin and flute fly around each other creating a feel of conflict with a moment of escalation and resolve which leads into track 2.
Track 2 begins with Tracey singing straight from John 1. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh…”
As the song echoes the longing of waiting for the Messiah, it then begins to drive as the band and singers erupt “Come, Lord Jesus, come…the world is waiting, anticipating, come!”
These 4 minutes are some of my favorite minutes I have ever been a part of musically. When we did the event, reading the Messianic Scriptures leading up to this point added so much more power.
By the way, we are going to be doing this event some more times and at North Side a few times around Easter. Stay posted!
