The above picture is a shot of my sermon notes today. 1 John 2:3-6 is so plain, there isn’t a ton to unpack there. It’s pretty simple. If you really know Jesus, you will keep his commandments.
There really wasn’t a lot to add to that Scripture, so I didn’t try to add a bunch to it. God’s Word is sufficient. It doesn’t need frills, it just needs to be heard.
So that’s what we did. We ended my message early and let God speak.
I allowed people to come up to the microphone and read portions of Scripture that shows how we are supposed to live. A few people knew I was going to do it, but all the readers were on the spot. It was amazing to have God speak directly to us this morning. No introductions about the words, we just let them read it. As people lined up to the microphones, it was so refreshing to hear the clarity of God’s Word speaking.
Did God speak to us today? You better believe it. When the Word is proclaimed, God is speaking.
It was incredible watching God speak and have people listen today.
While he brought us into the family just the way we were, he expects us to change to look more like the family he’s brought us into. Praying that that priceless time together this morning leaves to lifelong change in lives.
Today, we worshiped to:
- I Will Boast – Paul Baloche
- Words of Life – North Side Worship
- Always – Kristian Stanfill
- Crown Him (Majesty) – Chris Tomlin
It was a great day to be led by some wonderful worship leaders, and I loved hearing the church sing out with passion and sincerity.
