Today, I was hit by the joy of being able to be a part of this church family. God is doing so much around us and through this congregation, it is just humbling to watch.
This service was prayed over and the passage was studied relentlessly to provide a good flow around the focal text of the day.
5:1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. 5 You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you. -James 5:1-6
Today’s order of service:
- Scripture – Psalm 100
- Song – Enter His Gates
- Introduction – Parker paved the way to focus on God’s faithfulness and our need to be contented in him
- Song – All We Need
- Song – Amazed
- Song – I Stand Amazed
- Testimony & Prayer – Adeola and Kelsey shared a report from Ghana
- Song – Satisfied
- Message – Rick and Wicked – James 5:1-6
- Song – My Worth Is Not in What I Own
- Baptism
- Blessing
I was greatly challenged by the message today. Here are some of my notes:
- Woe to those who take advantage of others’ disadvantages.
- Wealth is not evil. Self-indulgence is evil.
- With all these riches, will I increase my standard of living or my standard of giving?
So wonderful to be able to conclude the 11:00 service by baptizing Ross. This brother in Christ has been changed by the gospel of Jesus Christ and is not backing down! He thought golf brought him from Scotland to USA, but little did he know that God had a plan for something greater all along!
It was really humbling to watch how college students truly led us in worship today. From Ross’ baptism, to Parker’s worship leading and testimony, to Kelsey and Adeola’s obedience to the Great Commission, I am so thankful for college students who become part of the family while they are here! And some of them are so connected they decide to find a job around this church because of their commitment. Love these young men and women that God is using mightily!
