We are preparing a 2.5 year journey through the Gospel of Luke at Rocky Creek and our Recommission Network churches! I cannot wait to begin. There is nothing like slowing down and walking through the life and ministry of Jesus.
We started by trying to time the birth narratives around Christmas, and as we started outlining how long it would take, we were amazed at how passages hit certain holidays or times of year. We will take two summer breaks, but we will begin this Sunday and end in 2028.
Luke: To Seek and to Save
Luke was transformed by receiving the gospel, and he labored diligently to communicate Jesus Christ’s life and lessons. As we study his account, we will discover how Jesus came to seek and to save.
1: Preparation (10 Weeks)
11.23.25
Truth Worth Telling
Luke 1:1-4 – Luke carefully studied the life and lessons of Jesus to share them with a dear friend. We ought to know the gospel message so well that we can share it with others.
11.30.25
When God Orchestrates the Ordinary
Luke 1:5-25 – God’s surprising plans interrupted Zechariah and Elizabeth’s lives with something better. Nothing in our life happens by accident because God is in the details.
12.07.25
Every Promise Kept
Luke 1:26-56 – To Mary’s surprise, the angel Gabriel told her of Christ’s coming birth. As she surrendered her future to God, she lived by the promise that nothing would be impossible for God.
12.14.25
Clear the Obstacles for Others
Luke 1:57-80 – At John the Baptist’s birth, his father, Zechariah, prophesied that he would prepare others to encounter Jesus. His ministry models the same type of work for us so that those far from Christ may experience an up-close view.
12.21.25
There’s Peace to Be Found
Luke 2:1-20 – The angels announced the birth of Jesus to those who were least likely to receive such glorious news. Christ’s incarnation brings peace to a chaotic earth that longs for something more.
12.28.25
Expectant to Experience Jesus
Luke 2:21-38 – Simeon and Anna both had an opportunity to encounter the newborn Jesus due to their prioritized habits. If we are to experience Jesus, we must stay expectant.
01.04.26
Growth Takes a Lifetime
Luke 2:39-52 – As Jesus matured in wisdom and stature, He amazed those around Him. Spiritual growth takes a lifetime, reminding us that none of us has fully arrived yet.
01.11.26
Turn Now, Not Later
Luke 3:1-20 – John the Baptist boldly called people to immediate repentance. We must turn to Jesus today, because we are unsure how much longer His patience will be.
01.18.26
Living in the Father’s Delight
Luke 3:21-38 – At Jesus’ baptism, the Father declared His pleasure in His Son. When you rest in the Father’s delight, your identity is secure in belonging to Him.
01.25.26
How to Stand When Tempted
Luke 4:1-13 – Jesus resisted the enemy with God’s Word. If you want to stand strong in temptation, you must be rooted in Scripture before the battle begins.
2: Invitation (8 Weeks)
02.01.26
Here Goes Everything
Luke 4:14-30 – Jesus announced His mission in His hometown, and the world has yet to recover. To follow Him means surrendering everything we are to everything He came to do.
02.08.26
More Than a Social Gospel
Luke 4:31-44 – Jesus ministered to many by meeting both physical and spiritual needs. If we meet earthly needs but ignore eternal ones, we’ve offered help without hope.
02.15.26
Leaving All to Follow More
Luke 5:1-11 – Simon Peter left everything to follow Jesus after the catch of his life. The greatest gain comes when we leave lesser things to follow the One worth everything.
02.22.26
Contagious Compassion
Luke 5:12-16 – Jesus healed a man with leprosy, restoring him to community. True compassion isn’t afraid to get close; it spreads healing where others widen separation.
03.01.26
The Cure We Didn’t Know We Needed
Luke 5:17-26 – Jesus healed a paralyzed man and forgave his sins. Our deepest need is not physical healing but spiritual forgiveness that only Christ can provide.
03.08.26
The Flawed Followers of Jesus

03.15.26
How Religion Gets in the Way
Luke 5:33-6:11 – Jesus challenged traditions that blocked people from God. Religion without relationship builds walls, but Christ tears them down.
03.22.26
Called by Name, Sent with Purpose
Luke 6:12-19 – Jesus chose His disciples intentionally and gave them authority. If Jesus calls you by name, He also sends you with a purpose.
3: Exhortation (10 Weeks)
03.29.26
The Upside-Down Kingdom
Luke 6:20-26 – Jesus described blessings and woes that flip the world’s values. If you belong to His kingdom, expect your priorities to look upside-down to the world.
04.05.26
Jesus Loves Us to Death
Luke 6:27-36 – Jesus commanded love for enemies and proved it on the cross. Following Christ means loving like Him, even when it costs you.
04.12.26
Check Yourself Before Criticizing Others
Luke 6:37-42 – Jesus warned against hypocrisy in judgment. Only when you confront your own blind spots can you clearly help someone else.
04.19.26
Unsurprised by Unspiritual Results
Luke 6:43-45 – Our words and actions expose the condition of our hearts. Bad roots will always bear bad fruit, so if you want a different harvest, start with a new heart.
04.26.26
Storm-Proof Your Life

It’s Not Over Until Jesus Says It’s Over

05.24.26
Letting Go of What Fades

05.31.26
Same Word, Different Responses
Luke 8:4-15 – Jesus told the parable of the sower. The seed never fails; it’s the soil that determines whether the harvest comes.
Summer Break (Psalms – 8 Weeks)
4: Participation (11 Weeks)
08.02.26
Unhidden Light, Unashamed Life
Luke 8:16—8 – Jesus taught that light is meant to be displayed, not hidden. A hidden faith helps no one, but a visible faith can light up the darkest places.
08.09.26
Closer Than Kin

08.30.26
Hopeful Interruptions

09.06.26
Saved to Be Sent

09.13.26
When a Little Becomes a Lot

09.20.26
The Question You Have to Answer

09.27.26
Dying Daily

11.22.26
Stillness Before Service
Luke 10:38-42 – Jesus commended Mary for choosing to be with Him over Martha’s busyness. If you skip sitting with Jesus, no amount of serving Him will fill the gap.

Pray Like Jesus Prayed

12.06.26
Knocking on Heaven’s Door

01.17.27
Help for the Anxious Heart
