Bringing Jesus to Thanksgiving

November 25, 2025

Thanksgiving gives us a natural opportunity to reflect Christ’s love, even in families with mixed beliefs. Here are simple, practical ways to honor Jesus without forcing uncomfortable moments or creating tension.

1. Begin with a Private Prayer

  • Ask God to give you a calm heart, wise words, and a Christlike presence.
  • Pray that your attitude sets the tone for the day.
  • Remember that you bring Jesus with you into every room you enter.

2. Offer a Christ-Centered, Sincere Prayer of Thanks

  • Keep your words warm, genuine, and Christ-centered if asked to pray.
  • Thank God for His kindness, your family, and His daily provision.
  • Avoid using prayer as a sermon; let it be heartfelt and humble.

3. Share What God Has Taught You This Year

  • When everyone shares what they are thankful for, naturally include what God has done.
  • “I’m grateful for how the Lord carried me through…”
  • “This year God taught me…”
  • It is honest without being pushy.

4. Serve Like Jesus

  • Look for jobs no one else wants to do.
  • Wash dishes, take out the trash, help with prep, play with children, or sit with someone overlooked.
  • Servanthood preaches louder than any argument.

5. Bring Scripture Into the Day in Meaningful Ways

  • Send a morning Bible verse to the family group text.
  • Leave a handwritten Scripture note for your host or a relative.
  • These small seeds often bear long-term fruit.

6. Redirect Conversations Toward Gratitude

  • Steer discussions away from complaining or anxiety.
  • Encourage hopeful, thankful, or redemptive reflections.
  • A peaceful presence stands out in any family setting.

7. Avoid Unnecessary Division

  • Choose peace over winning arguments.
  • Avoid political debates, old tensions, or sarcasm that can wound.
  • Protect the unity of the moment and keep the focus on gratitude.

8. Have the Conversation You’ve Been Avoiding

  • Step onto the porch or take a short walk with the person God has placed on your heart.
  • Ask how they are really doing.
  • Share what God is doing in your life.
  • Offer to pray for them in a natural, unforced way.

9. Pray Afterward for the Seeds Planted

  • Ask God to use your words, tone, kindness, and presence.
  • Trust the Spirit to work long after the dishes are put away.
  • Believe that quiet faithfulness is never wasted.

Even in a mixed-belief family gathering, you can honor Jesus at Thanksgiving without creating tension or forcing conversations. With a few intentional choices, you can quietly point people to Christ through your words, your actions, and your presence.
