As I have been working on the Courageous material, I have really developed a burden for fathers who have messed up or are messing up. I want them to finish strong so badly. For whatever reason, I woke up with fathers on my heart. You reading this might be the reason I penned this prayer below. If you want to accept what God has called you to but feel inadequate, don’t count God out yet. Spend some time in prayer to him today:
Dear Heavenly Dad,
I am amazed by your great love with which you have loved me. You loved me so much that you would be willing to call me a child of God. The God Almighty who knows everything about me still chooses to love me as his child.
While you have provided for me, I have turned away so many times. The lures of other gods take me out of focus in devotion to my one true God. I am sorry for when I take my eyes off of you, even more so now because I know my shortcomings effect those I love the most.
My family needs a man of God. They do not need a man who plays church. They do not need me to drop them off at church for their spiritual development. They need me to accept the responsibility that you have given me.
I will not be conformed to the patterns of this world. I cannot force any other family to follow you, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Amen.
