Tozer on Tuning Pianos and Uniting Worshipers

A.W. Tozer explains a wondrous concept about tuning pianos and uniting worshipers:

“Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become ‘unity’ conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.”

The closer we align with God, the closer we will unite with others doing the same thing.

You can’t simply strive for unity; you must be bent in the same direction.

Below is a video concept of someone artistically communicating this quote. It is not Tozer’s voice, but the message gets across wonderfully.

If you want unity in your church, you have to start by each being tuned to the same standard.
