Created By Him and For Him

We were made by God, and we were made for God. Whenever we forget that truth, we find ourselves in all types of trouble.

So, let’s start with the Creator.

When Paul speaks of Jesus, read what He says in Colossians 1:15-17.

15 He is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn over all creation.
16 For everything was created by him,
in heaven and on earth,
the visible and the invisible,
whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities—
all things have been created through him and for him.
17 He is before all things,
and by him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:15-17

The Scripture says that Jesus created everything (1:16). Have you gotten outside lately and taken a look around? I mean put your phone down and just observe. You could easily make a list of 10 things that you can see that Jesus has created.

Not only does it say that all things were created through Him, but it also says it was for Him. He not only made those we marvel at, but they were all made for Him. They were made for His purposes for glory.

Paul also teaches that all of these things hold together through Jesus. If you look at your life, you may feel that not all things are holding together as strongly as you hoped. If parts of your life seem to unravel, maybe it is because of the tension between what God has done and what we are doing.

Creation is God’s work.

Corruption is ours.

We were each made by Him and for Him. But when we make life about ourselves, we sin, and things get out of control quickly. Jesus is still in control. He will bring everything into order one day. But on this day, the chaos you feel is not because Jesus is out of control, but if you are allowing yourself to be.

We often sabotage God’s good gifts due to our sins. Take some time to pray today that you will remember that you were made not only by Him but also for Him. Ask Him to reveal any areas in your life that are sinful. Confess those and ask for His strength as you walk through today. Pray that you will be closer to Jesus at the end of this day than you are right now.
