We won’t advance the frontiers of mission by enabling soft Christians who are skittish at the hint of conflict. While you need to be in a good ministry setting, you will not be in a perfect spot.
Even if you serve on a mission team of one, you will have conflict. You will prove to be your own worst enemy. When people are involved, things are always more complicated than necessary.
Any team will have flaws — especially if you are on it. You will waste time if you search for the perfect team. You will also reduce your chance of long-term traction on a field if you jump from one team to another every time you sense a hint of conflict.
You are going to have to determine what essentials and non-essentials are. Due to your wiring, you will succeed in specific environments, with certain tasks, next to certain people more than others. Still, you can’t stay immobile until the perfect scenario presents itself.
As we journey on the Great Commission, Jesus promised He would go with us (Matt. 28:20), but so do many other people, and we must learn how to work alongside them well. Once you know the difference between these two categories, you can determine what you need to have and what you need to overcome.
